Boardgames / Card Games

Boardgames or Card Games derived from or inspired by anime (Japanese animation) and/or manga (Japanese comics).  To begin with this section will borrow heavily from firm's press releases and catalogs etc for the descriptions.

ANI-MAYHEM
Published by Pioneer Entertainment.
"Ani-Mayhem is the first and foremost Anime Collectible card game on earth! This special card game can be played against your friends or as a solitaire game.  There is a Starter Box set that contains the rules.  Then there is the Booster Pack that doesn't contain as many cards as the Starter, but is a cheaper way of adding more cards to your collection.  Then there is the Expansion Pack, which is similar to the Booster only this adds new images from different shows.  The Starter Box and Booster Packs are composed of such shows as Tenchi Muyu!, El Hazard, Bubblegum Crisis, Ranma 1/2.  The Expansion Pack adds the following shows: Dominion Tank Police, Project A-ko, Armitage III, Oh! My Goddess.

And then there is the Dragon Ball Z Ani-Mayhem Set.  Try not to be confused.  The Dragon Ball Z Set is fully compatible with the original Ani-Mayhem card game.  However, this only contains images from the Dragon Ball Z series and a new revised rules book.  There is a Starter Box and a Booster Pack sold for this set.  " From firm's media release.

BATTLETECH
Published by FASA.
For more than a decade FASA had incorporated into its fictional BattleTech universe some images created and used in the Japanese television series Macross.  Though FASA maintained it had licensed the mecha designs from the Japanese Studio Nue its right to use these images was challenged by Harmony Gold and Playmates Toys who had the American rights to the Robotech TV series (an Americanised version of Macross).  Although the court case against FASA was dismissed, FASA phased out the dozen or so specific design images that appeared in the Macross series so that the only mecha designs now present in BattleTech are those done by FASA itself.

JOVIAN CHRONICLES RPG
"A complete Science Fiction adventure based on Japanese anime brought to us by Dream Pod 9.
This is a complete game, using the Silhouette system found in Heavy Gear, about conflict in our solar system in the year 2210 AD.  These rules contain everything required to play, including a detailed description of the Jovian Chronicles universe, the Silhouette roleplaying and tactical system, and a set of realistic vector-like space movement rules that are fast and efficient.  Has more than 12 pre-generated vehicles.  With full color pages".  From Military Simulations catalog.  Depending on your gaming group preferences the Chronicles can be played as either a role playing game, a tactical board game, or a smooth integration of both.  Roleplayers may wish to ignore the tactical sections of these rules; similarly, wargamers should feel free to use no more than the tactical rules system.

MINI HEAVY GEAR
Published by Dream Pod 9.
"This is an introductory level game of Heavy Gear mecha combat (based on the wargames rules found in the RPG).  It is a simplified system but keeps all the flavour of the game, so is easy to learn and to play.  This is a complete game with glossy full colour map, 8 glossy full colour back to back Heavy Gear mecha counters, for two types of Heavy Gear, including several variable weapons systems.  " From Military Simulations catalog.

PROJECT A-KO
Released in 1995 by Dream Pod 9 and Janus Publications.
This card game is included in the Project A-Ko Role Playing Game and can be used on its own or with the role playing game, with 36 cards printed in full color on quality stock.  Unfortunately it is no longer in print.
